We cultivate creativity where art, land, and community meet.
Mission
We believe that meaningful creative work grows from a deep connection to place.
Our mission is to build community through creative work grounded in place. We build and facilitate installations, residencies, immersive experiences, and educational programs at the intersection of art, play, community, and ecology on a rural working farm in the Oregon Coast Range.
Our Work
Understory Arts enacts its mission through:
- Sustainably built art installations, often rooted in the Oregon Coast Range, with a focus on upcycling, interactivity, and practical use
- Artist residencies that facilitate the creative possibilities afforded by spaciousness of land, place, and time
- Immersive experiences that spark curiosity, dialogue, and learning
- Educational programs that promote intellectual, economic, and cultural development
- Community partnerships that strengthen creative and civic engagement
- Structures that reduce barriers to belonging at the intersection of art and land stewardship
